General Information

Communication policy

In New Zealand, it is common for important information to be sent through email, mobile phone, and postal mail. At UP International College New Zealand, our main ways for communication with students are:

  • Email (both your school-issued and personal email addresses)
  • Microsoft Teams
  • Mobile phone calls and text messages (SMS)

Students are expected to:

  • Check their emails and messages regularly (daily during the study week)
  • Ensure that all personal contact details, including mobile number and email address, are kept up to date with the College at all times

It is important that students check email, Teams messages, and text messages daily, as this is how the College will contact you about important matters, such as class schedules, academic updates, attendance, visa requirements, and emergency notifications.

Please note: If a student does not give current contact information or does not check or respond to communications sent via email, Teams, or mobile phone, we will consider that the information has still been communicated to the student. The College will not be responsible for any problems resulting from missed or unread messages due to outdated or unmonitored contact details.

Keeping good communication is an important part of your responsibilities as a student and helps ensure you stay informed, supported, and safe throughout your studies.

Campus opening hours

The campus operates from Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, except public holidays and the scheduled closing period during summer holidays.

Students are permitted to be onsite only during their scheduled study hours within these operating times. Access to the campus outside of these hours, including after 5:30 pm, is not permitted and your Verkade access will not be active. Please ensure you leave the campus before 5:30 pm to avoid any access issues.

UPIC Student ID card

A UPIC Student ID Card photo will be taken at the orientation, and it will take an estimated two weeks to be issued. If a placement is required, a $20 replacement fee will apply. A UPIC Student ID Card is considered to be a form of identification, and we strongly suggest students carry this at all times instead of your passport for everyday use.

Subject Related Additional Requirements and Costs

Some subjects may have additional requirements or activities that are not included in the standard tuition fees paid at enrolment. For example, Chemistry and Biology require students to wear full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to take part in practical laboratory sessions. Any costs for these additional requirements or activities will be paid by the student and are not included in the original tuition fees. Students who choose to take these subjects must be prepared to pay these extra costs.

Bring your own devices (BYOD)

The College has a BYOD policy. All students must have a personal laptop for their studies. It is important to know that only electrically safe devices are allowed on campus. Devices should be checked and safe before bringing them on campus.

Printing and photocopying

Printers are allocated on each level for students to access. The login information is the same as your school email address and password. If you have any issues with your printing, please see the support team at the welcome centre.

Food and drinks

No food or drinks (except bottled water) are allowed in the classrooms and library. Please enjoy your lunch in the café provided. Make sure you leave the common areas tidy and clean.

Lost property

If you find any lost property on campus, please take it to Reception. All lost property will be kept at Reception until the end of each term. Any items that no one claims after this time will be safely thrown away.
